Rolls-Royce Meteorite V8 Engine Zero-Timed & Military Rebuilt. An 18.01-litre / 1,100 cu in V8 gas-powered engine developed by Rover in the post-WWII era from the 27-litre Rolls-Royce Meteor V12 tank engine, which was a detuned version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 aero engine that powered iconic aircraft like the Spitfire and Mustang. The Meteorite was used to power earlier versions of the Thornycroft Antar tank transporter to move Meteor-powered Centurion and Conqueror tanks. Also used in various experimental and prototype vehicles including the Leyland FV1000 “Brontosaurus” tank transporter and the Leyland FV1200 heavy artillery tractors.
Acquired from engine overhaul shop in Europe along with a group of Rolls-Royce Meteor engines. This Meteorite is still closed off and sealed up as it left the overhauler in September 1982. Engine is complete with flywheel, ignition system, exhaust manifold and other accessories shown in these photos. Zero-timed, military rebuilt, perfect for repowering rather than the daunting project of trying to rebuild one of these engines.
