In 1977, Glenaan Elliott Robbins designed the first gold Nantucket lightship basket in miniature for the opening of her store on Straight Wharf. Three years later in 1980, she opened her flagship store, The Golden Basket, at 44 Main Street.
Glenaan has designed lidded, round, oval, nesting, flower, picnic and many other uniquely shaped Nantucket baskets. They are designed with meticulous attention to detail. The handles swing and the lids open to reveal a miniature penny inside. The custom scrimshaw on lidded baskets is done by hand with either black or multicolored inks.
Baskets are typically handcrafted in platinum, 18k gold, 14k gold, or Sterling silver.
All designs can be set with precious stones or pearls.
