Following the success of Adcom's first couple lines of GFA amplifiers, the 5x00 series was introduced in 1994 as an improvement over previous models with quieter performance, better heat management, and the same direct-coupling output that made Adcom's first Nelson Pass designs so famous. Touting a high damping factor and reduced phase shift to assist in controlling speakers with more varied impedance curves, the GFA-5300 might look simple on the outside, but is packed with sophisticated circuitry that Adcom had developed over the top prior decades.
The sound from this amp is clean and uncolored. With 80-watts per channel into 8 ohms and 130 watts per channel into 4 ohms, the amp is extremely capable and friendly to speakers of all types: dynamic, electrostatic, and even hybrid designs.
As Adcom were famous for saying "It's in the details." and the GFA-5300 delivers all the acoustic detail and push that one could want and at an incredible value.
This Amp has been fully serviced, re-biased, and tested. It really kicks the sound out delivering over 100W X2 into 8ohms. An absolute monster Toroid transformer is the center piece of this performance along with the outstanding Nelson Pass Power FET design, with protection circuit adaptions done by Adcom Engineering. Adcom likely spec'd it at 80W RMS because the heatsinks are a bit small for the full 100+ watts for an extended period. However, this little giant will deliver the dynamics in your music with clarity.

Strength:
I have this little giant designed by Nelson Pass and all I have to tell you is great things about it...no fair to compare it to my Acurus A-200 but really good performer as my second system.
Weakness:
None! It just get warm enough but never too hot at least that's not my case.

I just purchased one used (on 5/5/22). It's fed by a Denon AVR-3200 front pre-out w/nice RCA cables. I was pleasantly surprised with the Adcom amp. The audio image is much clearer than using the receivers (100 Watts channel driven at 8 ohms)speaker outputs. I don't know why but it sounds similar to the warm sound of a tube amp. Very clear/clean highs good midrange, and punchy bass. I'm driving a pair of Infinity Kappa 8.1's with it. My impression, if you can find one used for a price you can live with, get it. Nice Amp!

Now that prices have come down on the older Adcoms I decided to upgrade to all power amps for my home theater. I have a friend who designs equipment and I asked him if he could do a custom modification to my 5300 to be bridgable. He did and while he was at it he tested the RMS power output with both channels driven. That little 5300 puts out 120W x2@8ohm, 175 x2@4ohms and 350w x1@ 8ohms! Those are RMS outputs, not peak. Adcom seems to under rate their amplifiers.
This is vintage equipment and is sold as is, no returns are accepted. Cash Only.
