I'm offering my 2001 Mazda Miata MX-5 SE for sale.
Overall, I would describe the car as being in good condition, considering it is 18 years old, and it is in snow country. I've owned the car for three years and have put about 5,000 miles on it.
It runs well, starts instantly and is in good mechanical condition.
There is a significant amount of rust, most notably below both doors, the body near the rear wheels and on the underside. None of it is severe enough for it to fail a New Hampshire state inspection and the guys who did the most recent inspection are pretty damned picky. I wouldn't recommend this car for winter driving - the rust will take over pretty quickly if you do.
No major body damage, but a few small dents and dings, particularly on the driver's side. See the pictures for details on this. I'm at least the fourth owner, and I don't have any history on the car, but I haven't seen any obvious signs of major accident repairs or body damage.
I replaced both the crankshaft and the camshaft sensors, all four ball joints on the front and the rear brake calipers.
I've changed the brake fluid twice and bled the entire system. Clutch fluid was changed and bled in April of 2017. Coolant was changed in 2016. I replaced the main radiator cooling fan, and replaced the control relay for the air conditioning fan. Car no longer overheats even during hot summer days.
I polished the headlights and they now work very well.
This car was equipped with the Bose audio option, although the head unit has been replaced by a JVC CD player which was connected to the Bose amplifiers. It also has a Bluetooth adapter which works great for playing music from a smartphone, but is pretty hopeless for handsfree phone calls. (Callers complain that they can't hear me over the background noise.) Stereo works very well.
Power windows, power door locks and the remote trunk release all work. I have two keys and door lock remotes for the car. Cabled trunk and fuel door releases both work.
Car passed a New Hampshire state inspection in May. This requires full OBD-II readiness without any ECU codes set.
The car is equipped with tan, vented leather seats. Passenger seat is in excellent condition, but driver's seat cushion has split and is in poor condition. Driver's seat back is still in good condition. I installed fitted cloth seat covers. Car has carpet floor mats and sun visors.
Convertible top is aftermarket with a plastic window. It isn't quite fitted correctly and both the passenger and driver's windows will catch on the top if they are rolled up all the way.
I've had a little trouble with rain water leaking into the trunk and pooling in the spare tire well. Not sure where this is coming from...the seal on the trunk lid looks OK.
Spare tire is present and holds air. It's probably original to the car, so I'd use it very gingerly. Jack and tools are present and in good condition.
Car is sold as-in without any warranty. All sales are final. Purchaser is STRONGLY encouraged to do a pre-purchase inspection, and I will be happy to bring the car to any Nashua-area mechanic for inspection. Purchaser will be expected to pay for the inspection.
If you plan on driving the car away after purchase, bring your own license plates....I will not loan my plates.
