For every page of pain, glory and rebirth in life comes spirit like a phoenix rising from its flames.

If you are a singer, bass player, drummer, lead/rhythm guitar I'm not seeking your ego, professional skill or cover band catalog. I am seeking your spirit, motivation and expression of life in music which can interrupt the phrase above.

Years ago I played lead guitar in a band that did just that, despite how young we were. It wasn't age which made the connection; it was an appreciation of musical interests (rock, metal, southern, folk, blues) that made us be a band, over being individuals. Therefore cover band junkies need not apply because I'm looking to form a core group of artists that will bring to the table their pain, glory and rebirth like that of the phoenix.

This doesn�t mean the sound would be abstract or avant-garde but rather a solid blend of spirit that could reach everyone involved and listening. If this makes sense to you that I don't need to say anymore, other than take that first step and reach out to me.

All of these sources of music, good, bad, or indiferent are part of the scene. Find a place where you fit in and you win. If you just get angry, your head will explode before you get anywhere.

As a musician and sound company owner I see more people looking for older clasic rock bands that can play. This summer I have more people renting speakers and do ther own DJ thing. The new wizz kids can't play, and are to loud is what people are saying. The bands with 30 to 40 year old musiians are getting the gigs due to less attitude, better mix of tunes, they can play there instrument, and know how to run sound. Who wants to listen to someone screaming at you all night like an X girlfriend. So if your not getting gigs maybe you suck more than the DJs.
We do not rent, or do sound for club bands for this reason.

OK here's my take on this debate...

EVERY wedding I have attended that used a DJ...was attended by "people" who are totaly clue-less about music... that includes the Bride-Groom AND their familys.
Research has shown that familiarity and predictability are the things that make people comfortable- SO- if a given group of people hire a DJ it's for those reasons... There's no other possible reason for every DJ to play "Celabration" "YMCA" and "Proud Mary" but there you go... most people are ignorant herd animals.
NOW take a pro musician who has been playing "pop" music for years on end, and has had it up to HERE with The song of the month club and takes off in a different direction-
OOOPs! wha? no venues? few gigs? Tough SHIT!!!!
If you want to swim up-stream / dance to a DIFFERENT drummer / piss into the wind...be ready to face the fact that - You have more knowlege and expierience in music than 99% of your audience and all they want is the comfort and familiarity of the crap they have heard a thousand times....
NOT the eclectic stuff ORIGINAL or OTHERWISE, that you would enjoy....
I should know - I've been following the "Path less traveled" for some time now.
My position: I'll do the material I WANT to play as best I can and hope that eventually 1 out of 10 or so in the audience will like being challenged, and come back to hear me again. Screw the rest of 'em.

Goes to show you how cookie cutter Djs are, they dont even know how to read. Djs should not be in Musicians area. You say your band is doing better because of a Dj. You must be really good. and to cut down all the bands on here. Djs are wannabe musicians who have no talent. Its really tough putting a disc in. Djs are a dime a dozen, no talent, no frills. Please let the Musicians use this site. remember it says "Musicians". Not Djs. I understand it may be hard to understand anything other then "press play", but we have alot of very talented musicians on here. and if you only see bands that play Bon-jovi and such, you are probably hanging at a Dj joint.

This bus was originally a wheelchair bus for a nursing home. The inside has been stripped and rebuilt with carpeting, bench seats (one folds down flat for a bed), a loft with a queen size bed and room for equipment underneath, a refrigerator and a TV with vhs and dvd. It was used by a band for about a year and a half touring in the US. It has been exceptionally well cared for and has no rust issues underneath.

116k original miles, 5.8L V-8, new alternator, trailer hitch, the engine and transmission have both been running with synthetic oils, the tires have many miles left on them, and the A/C blows cold and strong.

This would be perfect for any band that wants to travel around new england on the weekends or across the country for a couple months. $5000 OBO

I suggest staying in Rhode Island with your Dj crap. We dont work together, nice preaching but we work for our money so keep your grade school turn tables down there and we will entertain up here. Not to sound harsh, Im sure your a nice guy, but, there is no talent to compare us with Djs, and then ask us to work together. I dont know of any musician who would work with someone who walks in and puts a disc in compared to someone who works countless hours practicing. Please look at the rules before you say what should and shouldnt be there. Djs are not musicians, they are djs just like karaoke. I love to see where and when bands are playing and I like to see who is looking for what. That is why its called Musicians. so before you try and design this to what you think it should have. read the fine print. If it has to do with musicians playing, looking etc, it meets the guide lines. If you dont think people should advertise their acts or just show what bands are around the area, then please "paste the guidelines from this site on here and show where it says so. I am a musician, and who in their right mind would not want to let people 'especially other musicians" know where they are playing. I come see alot of bands on here, who wouldnt want to know what bands are in their neighborhood, I promote bands putting there act on here, its free and as long as its not done every week, its not taking up anyone elses spot. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of going out to see a band, and hearing the same 40 songs, that the band last week-end did, and the same with the band before them, and the same with the band that is going to be playing there this week-end....
...and usually not even that good at it !!!

I'm thinking:
Motley Crue, Aerosmith, L.A. Guns, Led Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, Black Sabath, Ozzy, Deep Purple, Cream, Metallica, Heart, Judas Priest, Lynch Mob, DIO, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Tesla, Triumph, Scorpians - etc.etc.etc........

let's face it, the majority of the "bars" these days are filled with people our age - people who would appreciate hearing this stuff...
...most of the younger crowds these days are in "clubs" - not bars.

It should be something that's fun to do, sounds good, stuff you don't really hear from a lot of bands these days - and makes us a little extra cash every once in a while - all for doing what we love !!!

I have over 20 yrs experience - decent equip, some vocal ability, good attitude, easy going and easy to get along with....

The band is called Roots Nation and our style is old school Roots Reggae (see our
list of friends on myspace and you'll get the idea of our influences - essentially
the sound is 70's era Studio One style Reggae with the focus being on an
in-your-face 3 horn section and tight 3 part vocal harmonizing). The band is over 4
years old and has been gigging throughout New England for more than 3 years. We have

First of all we need someone who really really really loves Reggae. Respect to those
who like a little Reggae here and there and those who'd like to "learn how to play
it" for their repertoire, but we are roots Reggae purists and for these last 2
pieces we need players who already know exactly how to play Reggae. We are
rehearsing weekly on Tuesday nights in Dover, New Hampshire and plan on gigging
approximately 1-2 times and month (possibly more during the Summer), so you should
be down with commuting to Dover, New Hampshire every Tuesday night and not bringing
home a lot of bacon (due to the relatively infrequent gigging & number of pieces we
have to divide the take by).

And if you are a "pro" player and supporting yourself with your music and would
therefore be needing to frequently miss or change rehearsal nights due to last
minute gig opportunites, then this is definately NOT the band for you. We don't mind
if you have other projects, but we need people who love Reggae so much that they are
not only willing to set aside one night a week for rehearsing (regardless of how
many gigs are on the calendar), but can't wait for the next Tuesday, because playing
with a group of Reggae musicians is a highlight of their week and something they
really look forward to...

We are looking for a solid Reggae experienced KEYBOARD PLAYER who listens to Reggae
frequently and knows exactly what a "skank" and "bubble" are and someone who has the
skill and control to sit in the pocket and skank and bubble their asses off. Solo
and fill skills would be a plus, but mainly we need someone who is rock solid on the
skank and bubble. We generally would like a piano or electric piano sound for the
skank and an organ sound (cranked) for the bubble. Vintage keys a plus.

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POST BEFORE RESPONDING... Thanks.

The band is called Roots Nation. We are an established 8 piece, old school 70's
style roots Reggae ensemble that is 4 years old with regular gigs at the finer clubs
in New Hampshire and around New England. We have a good following and over 500 names
on our email lists.

We are rehearsing every Tuesday night in Dover, New Hampshire in a free professional
rehearsal room. So you should be down with making weekly Tuesday night rehearsals
and making the commute to Dover if you don't already live in the NH Seacoast. We
don't care if you have other projects, but if you are "pro" musician and you are
supporting yourself with music and therefore would frequently need to miss or move
rehearsals to accommodate that busy schedule then this is NOT the band for you.

We need a TRUMPET or ALTO SAX to join our trombone and tenor sax players
to complete the 3 horn section. You should have good chops on your instrument
(please no beginners), a good ear (able to find the 3rd harmony by ear when the
other 2 horns are playing), and some soloing ability and confidence on stage.

We would prefer someone who listens to a lot of Reggae (not Dancehall or
Reggaeton... this is the Roots people) though this is not a requirement. Reggae is
a genre that evolved from R&B among other genres so a Funk, Blues or R&B
background would also be great. And for the Jazz musicians out there who
might be thinking about responding, the horn lines will need to be played "straight"
which means played with the same phrasing that the tbone and tenor are playing, or
no "jazzing" or embelishing of the horn lines (this has been an issue more than
once with players coming from a Jazz background). Have no fear though as you will
have plenty of opportunity to improvise during the solos.

And finally we need a mature, responsible person who can be focused on this project and
not only CAN commit to the weekly rehearsals (regardless of how many gigs are on the
books or how much money is going in your pocket), but actually loves Reggae music so
much that they really look forward to the next Tuesday night rehearsal.

I do agree DJ's should not be listing with musicians,, but the statement "playing other peoples music" is rather funny. Most bands who play the club scene play "other people music"!!
It's not about that... It is about a "MUSICIANS" way to get out there or hire other MUSICIANS! So DJ's don't belong!!

Friday Night Live is currently looking for bands for a friday night sometime in July. We need bands that will have fun on stage and with the crowd as well as bring one. This is a venue that has tons of coffee cool games and everything. Teens come to hang out and enjoy great music. OHHHH not another prick that thinks he can set up a "battle" get every band to sell tickets, pay them NOTHING and do NO promotion on their own.

Let me tell you, I have been in the "scene" for years and what you are trying to pull is a bullshit scam. First of all, what is it $10 a ticket? so EACH band will be required to make you $300 for the chance to play your show, not get paid and have some bullshit carrot dangled in front of them, like a cash prize. You will probably do NO real promotion or advertising and expect the bands to do all the work that YOU as a club or promoter are supposed to do!

why not just try to throw a great show, with great bands, do a bunch of promo, PAY the bands and make a few bucks off the booze you sell and a couple bucks off the door? Because your LAZY and trying to scam hard working bands and their fans out of $.

Who's going to judge this "battle"?

how to you compare apple to oranges? i.e. how does a death metal band compete against a funk cover band?

The whole idea is not only STUPID and doesn't make any sense but is WAY low on the "you are a scumbag" list.

Learn how to run your club the right way and you will have great shows, happy customers, bands BEGGING to play there and maybe some good Karma.

I too believe Karaoke and Djs do not belong here. They are taking from our hard work and entertaining with someone elses music. I say we all flag them. They are business people not musicians. We work too hard for someone to go out and buy a Karaoke machine and start posting there stuff on here. REMEMBER these people are NOT MUSICIANS, FLAG them until they get the message.
